Aakriti Art Gallery is back with its iconic endeavour of endorsing young generation artists from different corners of the globe to showcase their creativity in one common platform – the Gen Next. The whole concept of Gen Next was conceived on the noble idea of promoting artists below forty that has eventually revolutionized the entire approach of curatorial venture in the art world. Gen Next was first held in the month of October 2006 on the 1st anniversary as the annual event of Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata and this would be the sixth edition of the same. Gen Next has already emerged as the role model in global scenario as a venture to identify, showcase and promote young budding talents that generally go unnoticed otherwise in the crowd of established artist.
Gen Next VI has been improvised further to give much more encouraging inputs to the artists who have finally made into this show. This year among the thousands of applicants and aspirants of Gen Next, the panel could ultimately come to a firm decision of selecting seventeen artists from different regions of the world whose latest artworks would be showcased from October 1st till October 20th 2012 at the Aakriti Art Gallery premises. This selection was done by a panel of three judges; two of them are very prominent names in the contemporary Indian art scenario – Chandra Bhattacharya and Samindranath Majumdar and an eminent art connoisseur Vikram Bachhawat himself who is the Director of Aakriti Art Gallery as well. This time the selection has been very meticulously done and streamlined to 17 only to ensure the presentation in the exhibition to be the best of the best. And the biggest announcement being made in the sixth edition of Gen Next is the Avani Gen Next Award 2012 for the best emerging artist that will be finally selected by the judges in the show itself.
Gen Next VI finally announces the names of the selected participants of this edition of the exhibition and they are Anup Mondal, Dharitri Boro , Francesca Ramello, Jayeti Bhattacharya, KanikaShah, Kaushik Saha, Kundan Mondal, Nihaal Faizal, , Prem Kumar Singh, Rajarshi Sengupta, Rajesh Kumar Ranjan, Shubhadeep Bhattacharjee, Shyama Prasad Bhattacharjee, Sudipta Das, Sushanta Kr Maharana Sumantra Mukherjee and Vidhan Kumar. An all-encompassing group has been selected who will execute traditional art forms side-by-side with new age or cutting edge art mediums and the curtain of Gen Next VI will go up to unveil a great series of works with dynamism and evocative discourses to be perceived by the audience…
The exhibition can be viewed from Monday to Saturday, 12 to 7 p.m. excepting Sundays
